چکیده

Abstract This article summarises the history of cinnabar, from its first uses in burials to modern oils on canvas. After a brief introduction mercury and contamination issues, gets heart topic. First, mercury-based minerals significant for studying pigments, i.e . metacinnabar, hypercinnabar calomel, are presented. Structural information properties precede an overview geographic distribution cinnabar deposits. The following section addresses multiple divided into funerary use, decorative lustre Chinese lacquer production. use writing (ink), medicine cosmetics is briefly described, shortlist uncommon finds further provided. approaches inherent but less known topics such as procurement, trade, production technology, application alteration. An entire dedicated calomel before concluding with analytical methods characterisation provenance investigation cinnabar.

Synthesis and characterization of red pearlescent pigments based on ‎muscovite and zirconia-nanoencapsulated hematite

Applications of mica-based pearlescent pigments are related to plastics, cosmetics, automobiles coatings among others, but they seem to be not explored by the ceramic industry. In this work, intensively red and gold colored muscovite pigments covered with layer of nanoparticles containing iron and zirconium oxides were prepared by homogeneous precipitation. The final color was obtained after th...

The alchemy of red mercury sulphide: The production of vermilion for medieval art

Vermilion red, mercury sulphide (a-HgS), was one of the most important reds in art and its use as a pigment dates back to Antiquity. In medieval Europe, it could be mined as cinnabar, or produced as vermilion by heating mercury with sulphur. This work aims to study the production of synthetic vermilion as a medieval pigment and to confirm which was the source (mineral or artificial) of the reds...

Preparation of Different WO3 Nanostructures and Comparison of Their Ability for Congo Red Photo Degradation

Tungsten trioxide nanoparticles with monoclinic structure and average particle size about 80 nm were prepared by the spray pyrolysis method. WO3 nanorods with hexagonal structure and average dimension about 15 × 100 nm were synthesized in gram quantities by modified hydrothermal method at lower temperature and shorter reaction time in comparison to the previous research. Photo de...

Anthocyanins and their variation in red wines. II. Anthocyanin derived pigments and their color evolution.

Originating in the grapes, anthocyanins and their derivatives are the crucial pigments responsible for the red wine color. During wine maturation and aging, the concentration of monomeric anthocyanins declines constantly, while numerous more complex and stable anthocyanin derived pigments are formed, mainly including pyranoanthocyanins, polymeric anthocyanins produced from condensation between ...
